NRA CCW Course

The NRA CCW course is an instructor-led class designed to teach the knowledge, skills, and attitude needed to carry a concealed pistol for self-defense. It covers firearm safety, defensive mindset, concealment principles, and drawing from a holster, culminating in a live-fire qualification.
 
How it Fits into Texas Firearm Training.
 
We at RAW Arms feel that the NRA CCW course can be considered our Level 3 course of fire. NRA Basic Pistol (Level 1), Texas LTC (Level 2), and the NRA CCW course (Level 3) due to the type of shooting, level of marksmanship, and incorporation of drawing from concealment. In both the NRA Basic Pistol and NRA CCW course students will shoot considerably more rounds than the Texas LTC Live-fire requirement so the student will walk away from these courses with a greater understanding of how to employ of their firearm.  
 
NRA CCW is different than the Texas LTC
  • The Texas License to Carry (LTC): This is the state-mandated legal permit required to carry concealed (or openly) in certain locations and to receive out-of-state reciprocity. The NRA CCW course is not the Texas LTC class.
  • NRA CCW vs. LTC Training: The Texas LTC focuses heavily on state laws, use-of-force, and dispute resolution with a basic shooting test. The NRA CCW course goes beyond state legal minimums to focus deeply on practical, defensive shooting tactics and concealment mechanics. 
 
The class is broken down into modular units (often taught over one or two days):
  • Classroom: Covers defensive mindset, situational awareness, ammunition selection, drawing from a concealment holster, and what to do before, during, and after a violent encounter.
  • Range: Includes a standardized live-fire qualification where students must successfully demonstrate reloading, clearing malfunctions, and accurate shot placement from a concealed position.
Who Should Take It
 
It is ideal for experienced individuals who want defensive-focused training beyond the baseline Texas LTC. However, it is built to accommodate students regardless of previous shooting experience.
