If you’re wondering how to get a LTC in Texas, the process is straightforward when you understand the basic requirements. Most people take the required training (classroom and shooting proficiency), apply, pay any fees, and get fingerprinted.
The Texas Department of Public Safety administers the Texas License to Carry program and evaluates applicants for eligibility.
Texas LTC Requirements
Generally, getting a Texas LTC involves:
- Meeting the eligibility requirements
- Completing the Texas LTC application
- Do the required LTC training whether in-person or online
- Completing the required handgun proficiency requirements, unless exempt
- Submitting fingerprints (Texas DPS will email you how once your application is submitted)
