Wondering how to get an LTC in Texas at 18? Texas allows eligible individuals who are 18–20 years old to apply for a License to Carry a Handgun.
Texas DPS states that it will no longer deny an otherwise eligible applicant solely because they are between 18 and 20 years old.
Texas LTC Requirements at 18
Being 18 does not automatically guarantee that you qualify for a Texas LTC. You must still meet the applicable eligibility requirements.
The below steps apply to all applicants:
- Complete the Texas LTC application.
- Do the required LTC training (online or in-person).
- Conduct the required handgun proficiency demonstration (military can have an exemption).
- Submit fingerprints and required documentation.
- Complete the Texas DPS application process.
Texas DPS allows eligible applicants to complete the classroom portion of LTC training through an approved online course provider, like ours. The required range instruction and handgun proficiency demonstration must still be completed with a qualified LTC instructor.
