Texas LTC for Military

What Active-Duty Members & Veterans Should Know

If you’re active-duty military or a veteran, getting a Texas License to Carry (LTC) can be easy and a valuable addition to your personal protection options.

Military Training May Help You Skip the Shooting Qualification

One of the biggest advantages for military members and veterans is that their qualifying military firearms training or proficiency records may be used in place of the LTC shooting proficiency requirement.

Texas DPS allows active-duty military members and veterans with qualifying documentation of firearms training or proficiency within the previous 10 years to be used in place of completing the standard proficiency demonstration.

Important: Your military records must meet the requirements established by Texas DPS. Be prepared to provide documentation with your LTC application.

Special Benefits for Military Members & Veterans

Texas law provides fee benefits for qualifying members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. The exact fee waiver or reduction depends on your military status and circumstances. Current Active-Duty members have a $0 DPS Application Fee and Veterans pay a $25 DPS Application Fee.

If you’re active duty, recently separated, retired, or a veteran, it’s worth checking your eligibility before submitting your LTC application.
